Simão Palmeirim Costa (Lisbon, 1984) finished his degree in Painting at Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade de Lisboa (FBAUL) in 2007; his Masters in Fine Arts at Central Saint Martins in 2009 and his PhD in Art Sciences at FBAUL, in 2016. He has had several exhibitions and publications, in Lisbon and London. His academic research focuses on the relations between theory and artistic practice.
He is an independent curator, a cultural mediator (for the Gulbenkian Foundation), responsible for several scientific dissemination actions (conferences, editorial coordination, digital contents etc.) and is accredited as a teacher trainer by CCPFC, having created the program “Art and Mathematics” for the National Arts Plan.
He is a collaborating researcher in the CIEBA-FBAUL e IELT-FCSH-UNL research centers, dedicated to geometrical abstractionism in Portugal. In recent years his focus has been the work of Almada Negreiros. In 2020/21 he curated two exhibitions dedicated to this modernist author, in the Batalha Monastery and the National Museum of Ancient Art.
