Meeting of Brazilian modernist intellectuals at the writer’s home with the presence of Mário de Andrade, Oswald de Andrade, Sérgio Buarque and Manuel Bandeira, among others.

Participation in the Semana de Arte Moderna (Modern Art Week) reciting the poem  "Os Sapos" (by Manuel Bandeira) and holding the conference “A pintura e a escultura moderna do Brasil” (Modern Brazilian Painting and Sculpture of Brazil).

Publication of his book Epigramas Irônicos e Sentimentais, by Anuário do Brasil.

Collaboration with the modernist magazine  Klaxon, with the essay “Graça Aranha, criador do entusiasmo” and the poem “Interior”.

A long voyage to Mexico and the USA, holding official conferences about Brazilian culture.

Publication of his book Rabelais e o riso do Renascimento, simultaneously by Briguiet (in Brazil)and by Émilie Hazan, Éditeur (France), with a preface by Luc Durtain, to whom the book is dedicated.

Promoted to Comissionado Encarregado de Negócios (Commissioned Chargé d’Affaires) in The Hague, The Netherlands.

Residence in Paris, where he proceeds as First Secretary at the Embassy.

1934

Successive promotions in the diplomatic career: Ministro Plenipotenciário de segunda classe (Plenipotentiary Minister, Second Class); Secretário do Chefe do Governo Provisório (SEcretary to the Head of the Provisional Government) and, finally, Chefe da Casa Civil da Presidência da República (Chief of Staff of the President of the Republic , for the Getúlio Vargas government.

1935

Elected "Príncipe dos Prosadores Brasileiros", a title conferred by the Brazilian press at the time, having as contenders Monteiro Lobato and Oswald de Andrade, among others.

19th of January: suffers a serious car accident, in Rio de Janeiro.

15th of February: death due to a generalised infection. Transfer of the body to the Palácio do Itamaraty (Headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) where the wake is held.

16th of February: burial with solemn honours of Chief of State, at the São João Batista cemetery.

Posthumous publications of his books Itinerário – Antilhas, Estados Unidos, México and Caderno de Imagens da Europa.
